neutral  Lingopro: Sorry to disagree desertfox; I read the reference and searched prior to posting and I still think it is wrong to use without a hyphen, specially since there are very good words in English to describe לחומרא, as suggested by our peers.

for stringency's sake


Explanation:
Here 'strigency' refers to the necessity of conversion rather than to the conversion itself. In fact גיור לחומרא is more lenient than the regular one and is required in cases when someone can't prove his Jewish origin (as it is the case with Ethiopian Jews).
