To the question whether Simchat Torah hakafot are the same as those of Hakhnasat Sefer Torah:
Technically they are the same, expression joy with the Torah, but liturgically it is a totally different occasion. I would treat them separately. |

Example sentence(s):- All the synagogue's Torah scrolls are removed from the ark and are carried around the sanctuary in a series of seven hakafot (circuits).
- Hakafot: (lit., "going around in circles") the sevenfold dancing procession made with the Torah scrolls on the holiday of Simchat Torah

Asker: Thanks a lot, Joab.
Asker: Do you think the hakafot of Simchat Torah would be the same as the hakafot for הכנסת ספר תורה?

2 hrs confidence: circumambulations
Explanation: הקפות are circumabulations (i.e., processions around the inside of the synagogue). While these circumambulations are sometimes accompanied with dancing amongst Hasidic sects, non-asidic Jews just carrythe scrll in processin whist reciting/chating/singing Psalms and songs of praise.

Whether they were dancing or not, הקפות are cumambulations and that is the main thing. People will dance at a wedding, but we don't call a wedding a dance. Hasidim (especially Lubavitch) will also accopany the הקפות with drinking liquor, but one wouldn't call הקפות a drinking party.

Asker: Thank you.
Now I have to wonder about the dancing...
The guy talking is a Chabad-Lubavitch representor - and the event was in honor of the person who donated the Torah to the synagogue. What are the chances they were dancing?
He talks about it with passion and mentions it was an unforgettable event.
Asker: :-)
