Protractor of a geometry box

Explanation:
Because of the bridge, the road here is humped like a protractor (the instrument in a school geometry box shaped like a semi-circle and used for measuring angle; this instrument is usually called chaandaa)and when looked from the village, the road looks like a bow.

This word is not listed in the dictionary, but from the context I guess this is what is meant. Is the narrator a school boy/girl? If so, this would further corraborate the use of a school/study related imagery.

---------

Another possibility is that a printing error is involved and the word is actually परे and not परिया and the sentence is सड़क परे की तरफ ऊपर उठी हुई है। If this is so, then it would mean the road is lifted up on its outer edge because of the bridge.

This makes less sense though.

well, if tarah is typed wrongly as taraf then it may be protractor as well.
