Saaru chho? 12:03 Mar 5, 2010
In 'saaru chho? 'saaru' with a 'u' ending makes it neuter gender, so addressing a person, you would use 'sara' not 'saaru' as in, 'tame saara chho?' = Are you well? But since it also means 'Are you good?' which can also mean 'are you (a) nice (person)?' the case used here would be 'tamne saaru che? = Is it well with you?
Re. the answerer's last sentence "Kem chho" is responded to with "Majama"(pronounced majaa maa) or "Saaru": One can say 'majama' by itself, because the 'ma' ending means 'in', so its a complete phrase in one word, 'in good health'. But if you only say 'saaru' it means just 'good'; you would say 'saaru che' which means 'it is well' (with me) in the third person. It would not be 'saaru chu' which is 'I am well/good', because that would put the speaker in the neuter gender. Hope this is not too confusing.
Thanks for a very amusing scenario btw! |
