The cost accounting system in which the overheads are charged to the production by means of the process of absorption, using absorption rates.
The rate or rates are calculated in advance of an accounting period for the purpose of charging the overheads to the production of that period.
In absorption costing production may be expressed in a number of different ways; the way chosen to express production will determine the absorption rate to be used.
These rates have been used by accountants for a century and they are still widely applied. Although this method has the advantage of simplicity, it involves an essentially arbitrary allocation of costs; for this reason the system of activity-based costing is now preferred. (Oxford Accounting) |

Igaz, a tevékenység alapú kalkuláció a pótlékoló kalkuláció továbbfejlesztett változata, amely elsősorban a közvetett (általános) költségek pontosabb felosztására helyeszi a hangsúlyt.
