Hungarian to English translations [PRO] Architecture
Hungarian term or phrase:kastély
Lehet, hogy mindenki más nagyot sóhajt a tudatlanságomon. A kérdés a következővel együtt értelmezendő (kúria) - mégis illik külön feltenni, gondolom. Magyar környezetben mi a kastély? Nem castle, azt még én is tudom. Chateau- az igencsak franciás, ráadásul borászati környezetben van, úgyhogy kizárt, hogy épületre ezt használjam. Estate nem lehet, az már a szőlőbirtok (amikor nem vineyard, de ez másik kérdés). palace - az palota. Lehet manor-house? Country house? Ez olyan szerényke. És hogy nehezebb legyen: párba kell állítani a kúriával, ami más kell legyen.

Kati, magyarul valóban a kastély vidéki. Budapesten sokszor hallottam az Andrássy-úti palotasorról beszéli. Amerikában (a British használat nem feltétlenül ugyanaz), városi környezetben is használatos a mansion. A palace szót is használják, a palace még nagyobb és elegánsabb, mint a mansion (ezekbál ma tizenkettő egy tucat).

Még annyit, hogy magyarul is van ilyen különbségtétel, sokszor a palota elegánsabb és nagyobb, mint a kastély. Ezért nem rossz a hercegi, grófi paloták esetén a palace, mint itt is: http://www.schloss-esterhazy.at/lm_historie M532f4644cef.htm... forditás.

Is it just me, vagy tényleg az van, hogy magyarul a 'kastély' az valami vidéki dolog, puccos ugyan, de semmiképpen nem városi környezetben van? Városban palotát tartanak fenn, akik tehetik.

Asker: Azt hiszem, ezt nem tettem világossá - nekem vidéki épületeim vannak - tehát a különbségtétel csak ezirányban aggaszt (egyelőre).
Explanation: A leírásod alapján a vidéki kastélyra ez a jó. Hogy borvidék vagy nem, az lényegtelen, nem kötődik ahhoz.

Asker: Kedves Kati! Neked egyrészt igazad van. Másrészt viszont aszongyahogy: "Tokaj houses take either the chateau approach, the wines of the property blended in the house style, or the Burgundy approach, where individual vineyard wines are kept separate...". Borkontextusban a chateau, ha nem a Loire partján áll mondjuk (mely esetben nem tehet róla, hogy így hívják), akkor egy konkrét dolgot jelent, ami nem az épület. Ezért szeretnék a bonyodalmak elkerülésére másik kifejezést választani.
