The National Audit Office’s right to audit local governments also means the latter’s obligation to tolerate control procedures and to co-operate. Such duties can be assigned only by means of a law governing the relations between state and local government.

ControlS

-> Köszönöm a megerősítést.

obligation to tolerate inspection / permit examination

Explanation:
It is about "ellenőrzés" - inspection, examination or scrutiny.
Controll would mean interference.

neutral  Annamaria Amik: I believe "tax/fiscal control" is quite a common term. "Audit" might be the best term.// Not necessarily. Most likely it is financial audit "related to funding awarded" (see poster's note), to make sure the funds were indeed spent as budgeted.

-> Common term is one thing, appropriate term is another. The purpose of the above excercise is to make sure that the company is viable, everything is in order, so they can trust the Co. but they have no right to interfere. You are right, audit could be used.

disagree  Ildiko Santana: I would use CONTROLS (plural)(or audits); control doesn't necessarily mean interference. See, for instance, the Hungarian tax authority: Adó- és Pénzügyi Ellenőrzési Hivatal = Tax and Financial Control Administration, where CONTROL means ELLENŐRZÉS(i).

-> Ez jó: Hungarian tax authority: Adó- és Pénzügyi Ellenőrzési Hivatal - who does not interfere. ;-)
