Attól függ, hogy ez az ár megváltozhat-e, vagy sem.
Én a magyar értelmét úgy fogtam fel, (és lehet, hogy ebben tévedek, mert ezt már kevésbé érzem), hogy arról van szó, a pályázó ad egy ajánlatot, ami egy összeg, és ez lesz a szerződésben elfogadva, egy meghatározott időn belül. (Senki sem bolond fix árat igérni határidő nélkül.)
Ez azért lehet jó, mert egy összegbe nem lehet beleturkálni, pl. miért nem tudják a szállítási költséget csökkenteni, mert az ügyfél nem tudja, milyen megosztásban szerepelnek a tételek az árban. Viszont nyilvánvaló kockázattal jár.
A lump sum bid is használatos, de a lump sumnak két másik gyakori használata is van, az elsődleges a fent említett, (az ODE csak erre hivatkozik), a második pedig mint tételek a nem fixed price szerződésben.
