Who is Subject to This Tax?
This tax is imposed on the registration of passenger and suburban vehicles that are owned by the following:

Amerikában azért teszik hozzá, hogy "use", hogy megkülönböztessék a "sales" tax-tól, amely nevéből adódóan forgalmi adó, a jármű eladásakor lép érvénybe.
Magyarországon nem írják, hogy gépjárműhasználati adó, pedig igazából erről van szó.
A fordításban választhatunk, hogy a kifejezés UK vagy US angol megfelelőjét használjuk-e, mivel ezek az alapvető angol nyelvi változatok. Ha tudjuk a célnyelvet, akkor még könnyebb az eset.
Az alternatíva a magyar kifejezés lefordítása.
A circulation tax egyik megoldásnak sem felel meg, mert az a spanyol kifejezés angolra fordítása.
Nos, ha már a tétet emelted, akkor igazán érdemes ráközelíteni. Mi is ez a "gépjárműadó"? Eredetileg, 1991-ben erről szólt:

"6. § (1) Az adó alapja személyszállító gépjármű - ide nem értve az autóbuszt - hatósági nyilvántartásban feltüntetett teljesítménye, kilowattban kifejezve." Majd ezt követte több módosítás. Szép összefoglalás készült többek között erről is, angol nyelven:

Amikor elkezdtem a választ írni, még nyitva volt a kérdés. Közben le kellett rohannom a konyhába, és így csak egy kis késéssel fejeztem be a válasz írását. Amikor megnyomtam az elküldő gombot, akkorra már le volt zárva a kérdés, a szószedetbe a circulation tax bejegyzéssel. Szóval ugyanaz, amit Ildikó látott. Gondolom az történt, hogy időközben Péter "Ungrade"-elte a kérdést, szóval most nyitva van, de érdekes módon a lap tetején ott van a szószedet bejegyzése, amelyet mostanra Péter javított. A lap alján található log-ban ott van mindez, időbélyegzőkkel.
Végülis mindegy, a lényeg, hogy megtaláljuk a megfelelő megoldást, és ne kerüljön hülyeség a szószedetbe.
furcsa, amikor korábban benéztem, az oldal tetején ez állt: "Question closed - Answer found elsewhere" és a szószedetbe felvett kifejezés mint "circulation tax" volt látható. Talán képzelődtem, bocsánat...

...egyszerű félreértés. A circulation tax a road tax ritkábban előforduló verziója. Lehet, hogy Spanyolországban majd megértik az angolul tanuló olvasók. Angliában meg talán a körforgalomra gondolnak. Az USA-ban csak meresztik majd a szemüket, mint Kati meg én is.. No de a kérdés lezárva, a szószedet gazdagítva, nem is szaporítom tovább a szót. :)
A circulation tax kifejezést leginkább Spanyolországban használják, de akkor is úgy, hogy vehicle circulation tax. Szerintem is nagyon vicces különben.
A gépjárműadó törvényének neve ebben az EU-s adatbázisban is vehicle tax. Továbbá, ha ráviszed az egeret a kis könyvecske ikonra, akkor az angol definícióban ott van, hogy "a specific and periodic tax which relates to the use within its territory of a passenger car".
A Road tax-szal az a bajom, hogy azt van, ahol a benzin árába építik be, szóval más az értelme.
Nálunk, ahol az ország népének többsége angolul beszél, nem értenék meg, sőt, nagyon viccesnek tartanák a circulation taxot.
