Indonesian to English translations [PRO]
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters / Abbreviations in translation from Indonesian | | Indonesian term or phrase: Drs./Drg. | In some birth and marriage certificates translated from Indonesian into English I have the abbreviations “Drs.” (before male names) and “Drg.” (before female names).
I guess they could mean “Mr” and “Mrs”, respectively, but I cannot be sure.
I appreciate answers in English, since, unfortunately, I don’t speak/read/write Indonesian. :(

In the past, "Drs." (Doktorandus) was equivalent to "MA" (Master of Arts) which was the influence of Dutch system. "Drs." is for male while for female, it is "Dra.". Then, "Drs." means a candidate of doctor or to be entitled to study for a doctoral degree. The degree shifted to be equivalent to "BA" (Bachelor of Arts) due to the stronger influence of British/American system. "Drs." or "Dra." degrees are no longer used for the present graduates.
"Drg." (Dokter Gigi) is a dentist equivalent to "DDS" (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or "DMD" (Doctor of Dental Medicine).
Your guess that “Drs." (before male names) and “Drg.” (before female names) is unfortunately incorrect. |
