Optimal is used in Indonesian. Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia gives its meaning as terbaik, tertinggi, paling menguntungkan. It's origin is probably the Dutch word "optimaal", but we have the same word in English with approximately the same meaning: "the best".

the best

I often get this word in my literature (engineering book), for example : "hasil optimal" = "the best result". But I've ever read in my book : "Optimal Control Theory" that in Indonesian being translated with "Teori Kontrol Optimal", so I think that you can still use the word "optimal" for your translation.

Optimal is fully adopted in Indonesian. The meaning differ from "the best" or "the highest" because optimal mean the best combination of from more than one variables.
