As a free lance "libero professionista" with a tunrnover below a certain amount, I do not have to keep normal double entry accounting books. I just have a purchases book and a sales book. I have no ledgers and draw up no profit and loss account or balance sheet as is normal practice under normal accounting procedures. I follow the "regime semplificata". I don't believe you will find exact equivalents and terms in the the US and UK.
