Italian to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Accounting | | Italian term or phrase: reggendo in termini di valore un incremento del 70% del turnover | I probably need to get up and go for a walk or something, but this sentence makes my eyes spin. Thanks for any help you can give! We're in the part of the financial statement dealing with assessment of solidity and solvency, EBIT, etc.
I minori indici di redditività conseguono al maggior volume delle vendite, reggendo in termini di valore un incremento del 70% del turnover.
So far I have this, but I may be far off track:
Lower profitability ratios are a result of greater sales volume, ???? . |
| | | English translation:corresponding/generating in terms of value (to) a 70% increase in turnover | Explanation: this is a possible way to see it:
if in order to sell more you lower your price, then an increase of say 100% in your sales volume will correspond to an increase in turnover of less than 100%
eg. you sell 100 at unit price 100, turnover then is 10,000
suppose that in order to sell 200 you have to lower your price at 85, then your turnover will increase by only 70%
if instead you had sold 200 keeping the price at 100, then your turnover would be 20,000 corresponding to an increase of 100%
by setting your price at 85, you presumably lower your margin and therefore your profitability ratios

17 hrs confidence: peer agreement (net): +1 generated an increase in revenues of 70%
Explanation: "lower profit (indicator)s resulted from higher volumes of sales, which generated an increase in revenues of 70%"
An alternative which cuts it to the bone.
"volume" is quantities sold, number of items, kilos or whatever, while "valore" is in money terms or in other words "revenues" and Increase in turnorver in terms of revenues, is just a long winded way of saying an increase in revenues.
I minori indici di redditività conseguono al maggior volume delle vendite, reggendo in termini di valore un incremento del 70% del turnover.
As for indici di redditività, this could just be a long winded way of saying profits or it might be a reference in the text to specific profit indicators such as EBIT.
Of course, what is difficult to get your head round is how they managed to increase revenues by 70% and lower profits. As Cristiana explains, they probably lowered their prices to close to or below cost (predatory pricing, dumpint) trying to price competitors out of the market.
