Accounting | | Italian term or phrase: codici di codifica | While I can 'get' the gist of this phrase, I'm really stumped for the best way to translate it and wondered if anyone out there could give me a hand. The context is a paper on bookkeeping in the middle ages and we're at the part which talks about what these accounts books can reveal about the kind of society at the time.
Here is the whole paragraph:
Per questo, il dato contabile è altresì strumento efficace per interpretare i segni dei tempi: basta condividerne i codici di codifica e quelli di decodifica. La struttura di quei codici, tuttavia, cambia nel tempo, dal momento che il sistema dei valori cui l’uomo si ispira si amplia, si modifica, si plasma, si adatta, pur mantenendo ininterrotta una indiscussa costante etica.
