Italian term or phrase: Portata
soil defined as being 'portata'; how would this soil type be defined?

I presume it refers to the water holding/draining ability or characteristics of the soil.

I am sure of the translation in eco contexts - to what extent the land/soil can be exploited without suffering degradation. I don't know enough about your context to know if this fits
