Art/Literary - Architecture / History of excavations of Herculaneum

Wiki explains what it is, and they look like big long long steps leading down but is their a term in English?

Asker: Thanks Tom, so that is the nearest equivalent, I thought so.

agree  Russell Jones: In some cases you might use terracing, as in football grounds of old.

-> Yes, but this is "la gradonata per accedere agli scavi", i.e. for access, and (apparently) not part of the ruins themselves.

stepped slope

Explanation:
Maybe in the absence of such a specific word in the English language, and to distinguish these steps from the actual architecture of the ruins themselves, something more descriptive could be used.

in this pair and field What is ProZ.com Project History(SM)?
Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Lara, thanks for the input, however, the context clearly distinguishes these from the ruins themselves and they really do look like a flight of steps in the plate. Wouldn't it be nice if I could post a picture here?

Asker: Thank you Lara
