Italian term or phrase: lambri
Hi everyone,

I'm working on a text about the collections of a museum, and some paintings are described as having "targhe sul lambri ligneo sottostante che indicavano le divisioni per scuole". I'm having trouble imagining what this is. Are the plaques on the frames or on some part of the architecture of the wall?

Thanks!

English translation:skirting/skirting board
Explanation:
I think it comes from French, and it is written in Italian as it is pronounced in French, so the word should be "lambris"

lambris (s.m.inv.)
ES fr. TS edil., rivestimento di legno, marmo, piastrelle o stucco che si estende lungo le pareti di un locale fino a una certa altezza
Varianti: lambrì (src: De Mauro online)

skirting (also skirting board)
noun Brit.: a wooden board running along the base of an interior wall (src: compact Oxford online)

Hope it helps!

Thanks! In the end, I decided that it wasn't so important to be really specific for this translation, so I just used "panelling".
