Italian to English translations [PRO]
Social Sciences - Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / Hat making
Italian term or phrase: piombini
This is about hat making and a special old hat shop in Rome. I am translating some captions that go underneath photos.
I am a bit stuck with the caption under the photo below (link is posted) for the word "piombini". Does it refer to the way they are stacked? Or to the bits of material that come over the edges? I am trying to work something around the word "piombare" as I don't think that it has anything to do with "piombo" itself, but I may be wrong. I do hope that I have given you enough context, but the best context I think is the photo itself.
I would really appreciate your help on this.

but I really don't think they use lead today, so they probably do something to increase the weight of the brim, just enough to make sure it hangs properly - fold it over or stitch/glue something under the brim? Usually brims don't need weighting but perhaps this material is too light?

I see that the labels aren't glued to the hats. It seems they are fastened with small metal parts.

Asker: Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I have decided that 'weighted brims' is the correct term in terms of hat making in this context, but I really appreciate your contribution
