Art/Literary - Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / sculpture | | Italian term or phrase: solleticare il gusto falso | Hmm..... I am struggling to come up with an equivalent phrase that convinces me in English... I think I have understood the meaning but would like a second opinion anyway as i could be missing something here. What might the writer mean by 'gusto falso' in this context?
The phrase in question appears in the following extract from a text on the sculptor Manzu' (Giacomo Manzoni) which I believe may have been translated from the German (unfortunately i cannot find the original on-line to check). Speaking of Manzu's qualities, the author writes:
''Non si accontenta di ottenere facili piacevolezze di leggera fattura, per solleticare il gusto falso di gente
superficiale, né le sue opere sono mai di arido contenuto»
