neutral  philgoddard: I think this is only partly right. Yes, the industry does exploit the media for its own advantage, but contemporary art is also inherently colorful and controversial, and therefore newsworthy.

I think "mediatico" here refers to the fact that contemporary works of art are more oriented to the media not in the sense that it's easier for the media to "capture" them but in the sense that they are directly targeted to the media: The media is their channel, their vehicle, and this defines them. This concept is underlined by the other two adjectives: volatile e speculativo.
I realise the difference between "friendly" and "oriented" in this case is very, very subtle, but in my opinion there is a difference and it is relevant.
