colored glazes

Explanation:
This term doesn't make much sense to me but I will try to explain a little about what I do understand. A medieval ink would typically be carbon particles mixed with a vegetable gum binder like gum arabic. The fact that the test refers to inks in the plural form makes me think they must be talking about different colors. Pigments like vermilion, orpiment, and verdigris could also be mixed with gum arabic yielding colored inks or essentially watercolors. They might be thought of as inks instead of paints because of their transparency and method of application. Glazes is a suitably vague word that could mean any type of transparent paint or ink.
