Italian term or phrase: sacca (mortale), in sacca
So this film synopsis describes the Alpine troops of Verona battalion as being "in un sacca", "in sacca", "in una sacca mortale", meaning the Russians have surrounded them completely.

I've thought of "in a trap", "are trapped", that sort of thing, but maybe there's some English metaphor that mirrors the Italian.

Any helpers?

Thanks,

Peter

To besiege

Explanation:
