Italian term or phrase: sottobasamento
This is from a shop manual describing procedures for overhauling an engine. Context is not helpful.

I have an illustration of this component, which lies under the crankcase:

I'd like to find a term that's more exact or better than "sub-crankcase", if one exists.

Notes to answerer
Asker: The problem with "crankcase panel" is that the component doesn't seem to be a panel. Perhaps "sub-crankcase" is OK, analogous with "sub-assembly".

Asker: OK, I've looked at the patent and am now convinced.
