Science - Botany
Any thoughts will be appreciated :)

Could it not refer to this sense of the verb (from de Mauro)?

Some plants are associated with limestones. I am adding 2 quotations.
"There are a number of nationally scarce plant species associated with limestones pavements which give them a high conservation value."
www.limestone_pavements.org.uk/ecology.html
"The plant is associated with limestone in Madison Co. and with granite or metamorphic parent material in Ravalli Co."
