However, I wonder if they are not actually talking about the Goodwill arising on acquisition of this shareholding (this would usually be a debit or negative figure) - being the difference between the net equity (or net worth) of the company purchased and the actual amount paid for the acquisition. This is goodwill on acquisition Explanation: This is the third time I've tried to answer your question. The text refers to the carrying value of the investment being in excess of the net equity of the company concerned. The difference being goodwill paid on acquisition. Good luck! Peter |
