Italian term or phrase: servizio stato civile
Buonasera a tutti.
Sto traduxendo dall'italiano all'inglese un certificato di matrimonio e non so come tradurre la frase "SERVIZIO STATO CIVILE" che fa parte dell'intestazione del documento (COMUNE DI TARANTO SERVIZIO STATO CIVILE).

Nello stesso documento, in alto a sinistra, appare isolata la dicitura MEST. Qualcuno sa cosa significa?

Grazie mille a chiunque mi risponderá. Buona serata,
I.

registry office
Explanation:
The equivalent in the uk is one single national institution, the "Register of births, deaths and marriages". Systems in UK and US are totally different since they do not even have identity cards, let alone things like a "certificato di stato civile". In the UK a civil marriage ceremony is know as a registry office marriage, while I believe that in the US all you need is a judge.
