Italian term or phrase: scuola secondaria
At the bottom of an estratto riassunto di atto di matrimonio, there is a stock phrase that appears on all estratti di stato civile:

RILASCIATO IN CARTA LIBERA ai sensi di ecc.
(Certificati ed estratti di stato civile - scuola secondaria)

This is not my comfort zone, can anyone help me with that scuola secondaria, I don't think it literally means school here.

agree  Zareh Darakjian Ph.D.: That's amazing. So, it varies even from State to State.. In CA, they say "junior high"... may be oficially they also say "middle"... not sure..

disagree  James (Jim) Davis: Yes but what about my ancient "O" levels and the current GCSEs. Also "A" level certificates are not actually issued by secondary schools but regional examination boards, which were and probably still are liniked universities (Cambridge board, Oxford board
