Italian to English translations [PRO] Science - Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng | | Italian term or phrase: soluzione R | In the description of a chemical analysis procedure, the letter "R" sometimes with a number appears after almost every substance used. I have also found it in English descriptions, so I imagine it is not translated, but can anyone tell me what it actually means? Some examples:
* Aggiungere 1mL di ammoniaca diluita R1.
* Si discioglie per aggiunta di 1mL di ammonio cloruro soluzione R.
* Aggiungere successivamente 0,05mL di ammoniaca diluita R2.
Mille grazie, Sarah. |

or better R stands for reagent grade.

So, they are performing successive dilutions till they reach at the ready to use R2, or R2, or R4, etc.

Also, they could be using different solutions R1, R2, R3, to finally get R4 which could be the one ready-to-use.
So here, R1, R2, R3 refer to different reagents.

In this particular context, R is the reagent grade solution (original).
R1, R2 are successively diluted solutions prepared from the reagent grade solution.

Of course, the reagent grade solution here is ammonium chloride (NH4Cl). This is being successively diluted. |
