This is in relation to a column packing operation:

"8. Raggiunto l’80% di riempimento della colonna completare il riempimento con l’ausilio di una gomma per l’acqua al fine di evitare la formazione di bolle d’aria che potrebbero provocare dei pericolosi colpi d’ariete in fase di riavvio dell’impianto."

I simply used to use a glass rod for this. Any idea what they might be talking about?
