Explanation:
"held in portfolio" is superfluous because "treasury shares" are shares in a company that the company itself has bougth on the market and having bought them they are of course "in portfolio" or in its books. In place of "treasury shares" some Italian clients prefer "own shares", which in not the normal term is perfectly clear.

Oh I forgot. US parlance shows a preference for "treasury stock", rather than treasury shares.

In some countries treasury shares are not permitted. In this case a company which "buys back" it own shares must cancel the shares from the shareholders' register.
