Italian term or phrase: valuta fiduciaria
"...un governo federale pressoché onnipotente emetteva valuta fiduciaria"

I have the general sense that this is a "trust-based" currency rather than gold or silver based, but I am not sure if there is a precise term to express it in English; I've not been able to come up with one so far. Thanks....
