A few lines of context rather than just half a line would help. It just means recognising taxes as an expense in the income statement. US accountants often use the verb "to expense" as in "expensing taxes", but it is a bit of a shorthand. You could use it.

agree  James (Jim) Davis: Hi Cristiana, net is probably a better idea than mine, but while I would bet 10 to one that it is income tax, it doesn't actually say so.
