Laspeyres price index

Explanation:
Hi Debora This gives a series of aggregtes times the price of the year before back to a base year, invented by Herr Laspeyres (a German).

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numero_indice

In English it just seems to be called Laspeyres index, while in Italian it is usually called "valori concatenati" because the key concept is that each year or period is linked (compared to) the previous year.

Hi Deborah,
Quite apart from the points (I have plenty and some to spare ;-) ), I fail to understand your reasoning, which, however, many others follow. If a client thinks that the correct translation of "giù" is "up", do you then award points to the person who answered "up" and then put it in the glossary?
The general run of Italian clients will almost invariably always prefer the most literal translation, because they feel safer with "attuale"="actual" and, when they are lucky with the draw, with "problema" = "problem".
Having said all that see my agree and link with Vincenzo.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Jim - your answer seems the most correct to me, and it is the only one that has actually explained what the term means. However, when I contacted the client they opted just for "chained values", so I've given the points to the answerer above.

Asker: Quite right Jim, but since this client is institutional, the term will presumably be taken as "accepted" in future translations. While I am hesistant to suggest that this particular client accepts any term without being sure it is correct, I am also thinking of the next translator for the same client who is looking up a difficult term - which is why I took the time to point out your excellent explanation at the same time as assigning the simpler term to the gloss.
