Italian to English translations [PRO]
Education / Pedagogy / Certificate of confirmation of studies
Italian term or phrase: indirizzo linguistico maxisperimentale
In this confirmation letter of studies taken at a technical college the first paragraph explains who the person is and then goes on to say:

"X ha frequentato il nostro istituto dall'anno 1994-1995 all'anno 1998-1999 nell'indirizzo linguistico maxisperimentale conseguendo il diploma di licenza linguistica al termine del percorso con la votazione di 95/100."

I think that this is describing some sort of foundation or probationary course so have tried "Foundation course in linguistics". However, I am not sure if this is an exact translation that would actually correspond for an English target reader. (UK English only please).

English translation:experimental high school course (specialising) in language studies
Explanation:
These are usually technical high schools, not colleges.
This course sounds like a language high school course taken at a technical institute (and that may be part of the "experimentation")

an explanation of what a technical institute (high school) is:
http://www.istruzione.it/web/istruzione/famiglie/ordinamenti

"sperimentale" just means that the choice of subjects is different from the conventional combination. Maybe maxisperimentale means that the school has a lot of experimental courses.
something about experimental high schools here:

something else about Italian high schools:

agree  SYLVY75: Nice explanation. I only wish to add that an 'indirizzo linguistico' is not an 'additional' language course lasting only a few months, but usually constitutes the core of the whole course of studies and lasts for the whole 5 years.
