Here is the key to the interpretation of the text. The outer greenery is illuminated/lit up/whatever to give greater depth and perceived space indoors with the light/shadow/chiaroscuro effect.

not entirely clear, but sounds as though they've lit the plants on the balcony whose leaves probably cover the windows, so you get that moving silhouette effect when you look out through the windows.

If it's "illuminazione del verde", it must mean the trees are lit. Otherwise it would be "illuminazione verde".
