Italian to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / valves, power stations | | Italian term or phrase: ammortizabile (contesto) | Per spessore economico di isolante si deve intendere lo spessore oltre il quale l’aumento del costo dell’isolamento non è più ___ammortizzabile___ con il relativo risparmio di calorie.
Obviously a cost-benefit analysis... it's just that this interpretation doesn't appear in any of my dictionaries. |

Hi Ryan,
Basically it’s not worth using insulation over a certain thickness, as the extra cost of the thicker insulation will be more expensive than the amount saved in reduced energy consumption.
So,
the increase in the cost of the insulation can’t be justified by the relevant energy savings.

| cannot be offset by heat savings
Explanation:
I do not know if this is the best way to say it, but "ammortizzabile" does not only mean " che può essere ammortizzato" but also "che può essere ammortato"; and "ammortare" means (among other things "recuperare gradualmente, con l'attivo della gestione, le spese di costruzione o di ammodernamento di un impianto"
There is also the common confusion between unit of measure and physical entity ("calorie" for "heat")...
