Italian to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / bridge cranes | | Italian term or phrase: traslazione carrello argano | I think carrelllo is trolley and argano is winch. The term posted comes up a few times in Italian (i.e. http://www.cervonisrl.it/argano-gru/1_2-traslazione.htm) and sometimes there's a hyphenated "carrello-argano". Any ideas? TIA

| | winch trolley movement | Explanation: I would go for this as translation is quite a complex term. The movement of a winch is rotary, but the trolley can move longitudinally or transversally so I would go for the ambiguous term of movement - in this case anyway |

18 days confidence: | Winch head traverse movement
Explanation: Well you are not far off Argano is an electric simple rotary winch and Carello it the sliding head tackle if it has a hook or alternative attachment which allows it to traverse. If you are considering doing technical translations from Italian to English it would be a good idea to get to know an Italian mechanic to help as Italian is a very vague language and poor in vocabulary so they use the same term for many applications which is why it's useless using programmes like Trados as they cannot differenciate.
After fifteen years in the mechanical engineering field I've learnt the possibilities for various term but sometimes I will ask for the origional Italian version of some manuals as I cannot understand the English translation.
