English translation: during downtime

Italian to English translations [PRO]

Italian term or phrase: fuori servizio
Riparazione: Questo approccio si basa sulla convinzione che i costi da sostenere per fuori servizio e riparazione siano inferiore all'investimento necessario per un programma di manutenzione.
Manutenzione preventiva: Questo metodo si basa su un calendario di attività eseguite sulle apparecchiature fuori servizio e legate all'esame visivo, ...

I initially put downtime in the first sentence, but obviously can't use this term in the second. Can I simply use out of service, or is there a better term?

Explanation:
You`re right, you want if at all possible to use the same term in the English for both occurrences, as the Italian author does, because the author wants the reader to see that the idea is repeated. So if you put Costs borne for downtime in one place and then machines out of service in another, the repetition isn`t obvious. I suggest during downtime when downtime alone doesn`t work.

Explanation:
I don't see a problem in using different translations for the two occurrences of the term, as in the first case, it is being used as a noun, whereas in the second it is being used adjectivally; hence 'service downtime' and 'out of service (or other possibilities).
