Italian term or phrase: vasca di compenso
"La piscina si compone di tre vasche (per un totale di 3.400m2 di superficie) due delle quali sono a sfioro per dare un’ effetto di continuità con l'orizzonte; le vasche sfiorano su un canale non balneabile di 300m2 che funge da serbatoio alla **vasca di compenso** interrata."

I've thought about "balancing" for "compenso" but "balancing basin" just doesn"t work.
