Thomas Ochiltree: 4:40pm Mar 2, 2006: Thanks, explanation - First, you are right, it is clear crom your answers that the "motoriche" in the original was a type. If I didn't think of this iit was because I'd never come across the term "meteoric water"; however seeing the answer I went to my Merriam-Webster unabridged, which did indeed give the term as water precipitated from the atmosphe" and which provided the example "meteoric water which falls as rain or snow".
Angela Arnone: 5:08pm Mar 2, 2006: Patricia: I don't generally translate into Italian because I'm English, but in any case, I have never encountered the expression "meteoric water" in English and I wouldn't know what it was unless I looked it up, as Thomas did, in the dictionary. -

Thomas Ochiltree: 5:57pm Mar 2, 2006: I think I'll play it safe and use both terms: "meteoric water" because according to my Merriam Webster's it is an english term of art, and "rain water" because this is just one of a series of audits of companies in different fields (and not just environmental audits), so the reader is likely to be as unfamilar with "meteoric water" (legitimate though it is) as I was to the point of not even realizing that the Italian "metoriche" could be a typo for "meteoriche". Thanks to all for the good help!

Thomas Ochiltree: 6:13pm Mar 2, 2006: I'm still not completely sure which of the various helpful amsperes relating to acqua piazzale to use. I trust the answerer that "storm waters" means what the answerer says, but I'm not sure the non-technical reader -- note my point about readership in my previous note -- will understand the difference between "meteoric (rain) water" and "storm water". Won't that reader say to himself, "what is storm water other than rain water?" What about using "storm runoff?" But does it just have to do with storms? I'm tempted by "paved area runoff" but does the area have to be paved? Another answerer described it as water that can't drain. Incidentally, in case anyone wonders why given my ignorance of the subject I am translating the text at all, I would simply say in my defense that this is one term in just one of a series of audits that look at the business and management practices of a series of companies, from winemaking to the outfit in question, which is a manufacturing company and appears to have pollution problems.
