Italian to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Environment & Ecology /
Italian term or phrase:caratterizzato dal fatto che
Hi, working on patent claims and I need highly specific patent lingo.
My queston is can "caratterizzato dal fatto che " be translated as "wherein", which I believe is much more proper than
"characterized by the fact that", which makes me shiver with literal fear.

"Wherein" is the typical form used in patent claims. I almost exclusively work on patent translations from English/American into Italian and that is the expression I always find.
I'll post an example of a similar patent, hence my query.
TIA

Asker: It does make a ton of sense, and reads very well - yet, I have an itch that something may be more appropriate. Sorry to be so stubborn; but this is research into a very specific field. Thanks!
Asker: I must agree with Jim - that was my point, it just sounded wordy despite the fact that I have seen it in patents. In regards to Ryan's remark, I do believe that there is a slight leeway in choosing the language, though not much.
