Italian to English translations [PRO]
Food & Dairy / coffee bar
Italian term or phrase: retrobancone
One of the items in a list of points to cover in an induction course for new staff in a coffee bar chain is: "MIS EN PLACE E DISPOSIZIONE RETROBANCONE PER APERITIVI, SMOOTHIES CRUSH, ECC..."
...
I assume this is the area behind the bar, where staff prepare the drinks before serving them. Is that right and is there a name for this? TIA :).

'back counter' or 'back bar'
Explanation:
Would either of these work? Perhaps along the lines of 'back office work'.

(area) behind the bar

Explanation:
as you said I think it's the meaning. In Italian is an invention as many others, so probably must be in English!

IN Italy we say "dietro il bancone" , i.e. the exact opposite from the customers' area.

rear work counter

Explanation:
This is a bit of a guess, as I am not sure that there is a term in English for this. I can see it though in my mind!

I see this as a separate counter from the bar where they serve, the one under the racks of bottles. The barista is facing away from you (the customer at the bar) when he/she is working here.

A couple of options for you.
For the first one, please see the reference links below (Italian and English versions).
The second one is more of a guess...
Hope they help.
