If you know what kind of grain it is, then put the name and avoid adding "crop"

I.e., hoed wheat, hoed corn, etc.

Incidentally, as you doubtless konow, in bookish English "corn" stands not only for "maize" but for "grain"/"grain crop" in general. So, again, in bookish English, you may just say "hoed corn"; but in a cooking translation it may be misleading.
