Italian term or phrase: conglomerato fibrolegnoso nobilitato
conglomerato fibrolegnoso nobilitato

This is the material used for making part of a desk.

There is no info on what this has been "nobilitato" with.

To me it sounds like it is simply fibreboard that has been covered with something to make it look nicer than it really is.

veneered fibreboard/fiberboard
Explanation:
may well be particleboard, as Tom suggests, but fibreboard is more generic, and covers various densities, including particleboard and MDF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard), which are the two most likely candidates here

Maybe the "fibro-" would also point more towards fibreboard

laminated particle board

Explanation:
just to be difficult ;-)

seriously, though, could be laminiated with white plastic rather than a wood veneer. if you google laminated particle/fibreboard you get non-naturalistic finishes as well. difficult to know without a photo. is there no mention elsewhere of colour?

"nobilitato" means "with a more precious genuine wood finish applied to the surface". So the addition of a plastic veneer would *not* be "nobilitare".
