Italian term or phrase: per ragioni industriali si è scelto di dare un codice
Hi there,

I'm translating an article with an Italian lighting designer and am trying to understand the meaning of this sentence:

poi per ragioni industriali si è scelto di dare un codice ad ogni apparecchio

Here's the full sentence to give you more context:
Quando per esempio abbiamo disegnato Agave (Luceplan) avevamo pensato ad un kit di centine con cui l’utilizzatore poteva giocare, riconfigurando la propria lampada, poi per ragioni industriali si è scelto di dare un codice ad ogni apparecchio… lo stesso vale per Elementi di LucePlan e Honeycomb, creiamo sistemi più che apparecchi.

When we designed Agave (Luceplan), we designed it with transparent ribs to allow the user to experiment and reconfigure the light. It was then decided to give each device a manufacturing code??? The same can be said for Elementi by LucePlan and Honeycomb, we create structures rather than devices.

Feel free to comment on the rest of the translation.

Thanks!
Sarah Webb

for production reasons, we decided to allocate a code

Explanation:
I feel that "industria" and "industriale" are often false friends which are better translated as "production" or "manufacturing".

Reference information:
I don't understand your doubts.
"For industrial/manufacturing/processing reasons" is what the Italian phrase means, you chose the best fit in English.
When you say "code" I believe you are quite correct in specifying "manufacturing code", since there are many kinds thereof.
