Italian to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Furniture / Household Appliances / kitchens/kitchen units
Italian term or phrase: sottomaniglie
Il colore base è il bianco al quale vengono accostati diversi colori applicati alle maniglie e sottomaniglie intercambiabili.

The things I have found on google don't convince me, seem a bit invented! I know this is in the proz glossary but I don't like "tap trims" here, particularly as my text is about kitchen units.
thank you for the help

Rose

Explanation:
The sottomanglia is the "rose" we use as part of a door knob attachment:

(This image shows the "rose" on a front door handle system, but similar could be found on a cupboard door)

I don't know what you mean by sarcastic, this is the actual name for a part of the door knob. I have heard it often. On googling sottomaniglia for images on google images there are many of these for door handles for some reason but they are obviously applying the term to kitchen unit doors in this case.

backplates

Explanation:
not terribly sure, I think it depends on the type of handle/knob, but this term is used

The Backplate is an Often Overlooked Much Needed Kitchen Hardware Decor Accessory

The purpose of a backplate was and is two-fold: to reinforce the drawer or door front and to add some decorative flair to an otherwise boring knob or pull.

I agrree that "rose" is what goes beneath/against/under the knob of a door handle, but kitchen units it may be quite different from a standard door
