Italian term or phrase: premesse di carattere generale
in un articolo medico: "Nel presente articolo, dopo alcune importanti premesse di carattere generale, verranno illustrate ......"
after some important general preliminary remarks"? ma "general" non è un po' il contrario di important?


non posso usare " after a general introduction" perchè queste premesse non si fanno solo nell'introduzione vera e propria del paper, ma sono sparse in due, tre sottocapitoli....

il registro è chiaramente formale

Secondo me anche "important" può andare con general premises: in fin dei conti, "generale" può essere considerato contrario di "specifico", ma anche un concetto generale riveste la sua importanza, no? :)

Explanation:
Secondo me anche "important" può andare con general premises: in fin dei conti, "generale" può essere considerato contrario di "specifico", ma anche un concetto generale riveste la sua importanza, no? :)

neutral  James (Jim) Davis: Nearly half of Italian academics did a degree in law, so to be faithful perhaps it should be in legal language (e.g. premesse=recitals/preamble).
