"Alveo il cui letto è posto ad una quota più elevata del piano di campagna circostante. È una condizione frequente nei corsi d’acqua in pianura arginati i cui sedimenti, non potendosi depositare nella piana alluvionale, si accumulano nell’alveo, sopraelevandolo. È una situazione molto rischiosa perché, in caso di rottura dell’argine, l’intera portata del fiume si riversa nella piana alluvionale creando inondazioni devastanti"
