Italian term or phrase: ampie vallecole
"la fascia pedemontana e' solcata da ampie vallecole che alla loro foce mantengono dei piccolissimi stagni".
Now, as far as I know, "vallecola" is a small valley... how can it have a "foce"?? I must be missing something. Can anyone help with the meaning/translation of the sentence?
grazie!

It seems to me that foce here is used extensively as "mouth of the valley"

You can also use "hollow" which is synonymous with "small valley" (valletta, vallecola)
