Geography
Italian term or phrase: comprensorio DOC
comprensoris is dictrict I see in previous questions. DOC?

Proviene dal colle Tuscolo e deve gran parte della sua fama al console romano Marco Porzio Catone.
Oggi il comprensorio DOC conta 2.500 produttori per circa 200mila ettolitri l’anno.

English translation:DOC zone
Explanation:
Region or area can also be used, but this is I think the most common.

This is also the translation listed on Giles Watson's authoritative wine glossary (under term 'denominazione'):

or "DOC region"'s 2700:

DOC area

Explanation:
I'd keep DOC. Perhaps you could put ("Controlled origin denomination") following DOC if the translation is for a wider target that isn't used to Italian produce (wines, food, etc.)

agree  Stefano Costa: I thought of Giles' glossary too! But I had already posted my answer and thought that area or zone were both viable alternatives. Ciao.
